# Heart Failure Clinical Trials — Patient Guide

If you have heart failure and your cardiologist has mentioned a clinical trial, this guide explains what trials are available, what to expect, and how to know if a trial fits you.

## What heart failure clinical trials test

- New medications that reduce hospitalization and death
- Devices that help the heart pump more effectively
- Treatments for specific causes of heart failure (e.g., iron deficiency)
- Procedures to repair valves or improve blood flow

## Two main types of heart failure

- **HFrEF (heart failure with reduced ejection fraction)** — heart's pumping function is weakened (LVEF ≤40%)
- **HFpEF (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction)** — heart pumps normally but doesn't relax properly (LVEF ≥50%)

Most trials enroll patients in one or the other. The eligibility section of the trial protocol specifies which.

## Trials currently enrolling at Amavita Research

- **JK07 (Salubris)** — Phase 2 chronic heart failure, NCT06369298. https://www.amavitaresearch.com/trials/jk07-heart-failure
- **IV Ferric Derisomaltose (Pharmacosmos)** — Phase 3, iron-deficient HF. https://www.amavitaresearch.com/trials/iv-ferric-derisomaltose
- **VS-041 HFpEF (VASA)** — Phase 1, HFpEF. https://www.amavitaresearch.com/trials/vs-041-hfpef

## Who typically qualifies

- Diagnosis of heart failure (HFrEF or HFpEF depending on the trial)
- On stable guideline-directed medical therapy
- NYHA class II–IV symptoms
- Stable enough to attend monthly visits
- No recent hospitalization within a defined window (varies by protocol)

## What patients can expect

- Free trial-related care — study drug, study procedures, study tests
- Bilingual coordinators (English / Spanish / Haitian Creole / Portuguese)
- Co-management with your primary cardiologist (you don't switch doctors)
- Monthly or bi-monthly visits during active treatment
- 24/7 contact number for trial-related questions
- 24-hour ABPM, echocardiography, NT-proBNP processing on-site

## How enrollment works

1. Call (786) 703-5941 or email research@amavita.health
2. Coordinator does a brief screening call to check trial fit
3. Screening visit at the site if a trial might fit
4. Principal Investigator reviews and confirms eligibility
5. Informed consent — take it home, read it, ask questions, decide

You can withdraw at any time, for any reason.
